Marco Polo's history

As a little boy was growing up in a ghetto of Mexico City in the forties, a little girl was being raised in a small town in Michigan.  Only God knew that He would someday weave them together in His plan.   Here is that boy’s story.

I was in law school with illusions of becoming a public figure, and at the same time I   teamed up with a famous singer to duet our way into the recording industry and television, and soon one of our records was number two on the Mexican hit parade.   However, the excitement and my illusions faded into oblivion as I saw the moral corruption of both show business and politics.  Much more encouraging was the privilege of serving as number one point man on the university soccer team which later became the Pumas, one of Mexico’s professional teams.

There at the university, I met my future wife who had traveled to Mexico to begin her master’s in  Spanish. We married in Michigan when I was 21. Five years later, we were on the edge of divorce for various reasons such as cultural friction (I was a Mexican and she was of German ancestry), and for my lack of responsibility and marital commitment.  During this crisis, I asked my wife for a divorce.   I thought I’d be “noble” and free her from more suffering, but a depression came upon me as I realized that the very thing my father had done by abandoning us when I was 15, and which I so hated, was what I was now trying to do with my wife and precious little boys, Marco 4 and Erick 2.

One day as I sat in the living room, I lifted my eyes and cried out in desperation, “God, if You really exist, help me.”  I heard a voice that told me to go over to the church we attended.  There a servant of the Lord put my name into John 3:16 and said, “For God so loved Marco that He gave His only begotten Son that if Marco believes in Him, he will not perish but have everlasting life.” It was my moment with God.  Marco Polo the macho man broke down crying for fifteen or more minutes as he felt conviction for his sins and God's loving forgiveness. 

I walked back into my home a different person. My life changed radically.  I asked my wife for forgiveness, and our relationship was healed.  We are very happily married now, 45 years later.  God called us to the mission field and sent us back to Mexico in 1973.  We have been blessed with six children and four grandchildren. 

We have learned that true happiness is the walk which is with God and according to the special plan that He has for each one of us.  We have learned to love the beauty of a sanctified marriage.  When modern man wants to change the rules and do things “my way” instead of “His way”, that is when he ends up with a God-shaped hollow in his heart and a race after the peace that eludes him.  The fame that I experienced as a very young man had led me to disappointment, but God not only never disappoints us, but life in Him is the most exciting, fulfilling, fun, and satisfying experience that man can live.

The price that we pay for being so human is error, but if we persist in our errors we end up trapped in them and actually clinging to them.  We all make mistakes, but can we turn them around to something positive?  God is a God of love, and the last thing He wants to do is to condemn us.  He wants to save us from our sins and errors.

Revelation 3:19-20 tells us, “Those whom I love, I reprove and discipline; be zealous therefore, and repent.  Behold, I stand at the door and knock; if anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him, and will dine with him, and he with Me.”

Romans 6:23 reminds us “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” 

Romans 10: 9-10 tells how it works:  “If you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved; for with the heart man believes, resulting in righteous, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.” Verse 11 continues, “For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes in Him will not be disappointed.”

When we truly believe in Him, our focus changes from the things that had us separated from God to the things that cause us to grow closer to Him. God is good, and He wants to restore us to His image and to draw us away from the things that distort our image.  He wants us to walk closely with Him and to obey Him.  There's so much out there where we were to distract us from this, so we need to make wise decisions and be on the alert.

I hope the following prayer will help you to know how to approach God:  “Heavenly Father, I am sorry for all the things I've done wrong, and I ask You to forgive me.  I feel sad for the times I've disappointed You.  Lord Jesus, I ask you to come into my heart and take charge of my life.  I want to know you and to make You my Lord, Savior and best friend.  Thank you for hearing me and restoring my life.  In the precious name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

We all know that in order to keep a campfire lit, we need to keep adding wood.  What can we add to keep our fire lit for the Lord?  Here are four fire-warmers: 

1.   Spend time with God.  Put into words how great, how loving, how wonderful He is, and then open your heart to Him and ask for your needs,  for others, tell Him how you feel, and so on.  You’ll learn to talk to your best friend throughout the day!

2.   Read His Word.  Start in the New Testament to get to know God through Christ Jesus.

3.   Surround yourself with people who know and love the Lord.

4.   Share your faith with others

Remember! “Whoever believes in Him will not be disappointed.” Rom.10:11

Testimonio de Marco Polo

Mientras un niñito crecía en un barrio de México, D.F., una niña estaba creciendo en una tierra lejana cerca de Detroit, Michigan.  Solo Dios sabia que algún dia, El iba a entre-tejerlos juntos para Su plan.

Cuando yo estaba  estudiando leyes en el UNAM, tenia ilusiones de llegar a ser un abogado e importante político.  A la vez forme un dueto cantando con el entonces “Showman de México” Vivi  Hernández y entre el mundo de la farandula grabando en en Orfeon Dimsa y  en televicentro. 

Pronto una de nuestras canciones llego a ser número uno en el Mexican Hit Parade.  Tristemente, las emociónes e ilusiones se marchitaron cuando me di cuenta de la corrupcion moral del mundo político y del show business.   Lo que si me animaba era ser el líder goleador de la Selección de futbol de la UNAM que mas delante serian los Pumas.

Alli en el UNAM, conocí a mi futura esposa  (una americana de descendencia alemana) quien había viajado a México para empezar su maestría en español.  Nos casamos en su pueblo natal en Michigan cuando yo tenia 21 años.  Después de cinco años le  pedí el divorcio.  No nos acoplamos culturalmente, y yo no estaba cumpliendo con mi  compromiso  matrimonial.    

En esa crisis  en donde yo le pedí el divorcio para mostrarle mi “nobleza” y librarla del sufrimiento, me entro una depresión y mucha tristeza al pensar que la cosa que mas odie de mi papa, ya que el nos dejo cuando yo tenía 15 años, Yo lo estaba haciendo e iba a abandonar a mi esposa y a mis dos niñitos Marco de 4 y Erick de 2 años .

Sentado en la sala de mi casa alce mis ojos al cielo y dije: “DIOS SI EN VERDAD EXISTES…… AYUDAME.”  Dios me contesto y me ayudo.  Esa Navidad de 1969 recibí a Jesucristo en mi corazón.  El Pastor con el que hable solo me dijo: “DE TAL MANERA AMO DIOS A MARCO POLO , QUE DIO A SU HIJO UNIGENITO Y SI MARCO POLO CREE EN EL NO PERECERA MAS TENDRA VIDA ETERNA”.  Me parafraseo San Juan 3:16 poniendo mi nombre en el.  Mi vida cambio totalmente. Dios sano nuestras heridas, perdono nuestros pecados y después de pedirle perdón a mi esposa nos reconciliamos hermosamente. Hasta la fecha vivimos felizmente. Después de eso Dios nos llamo al campo misionero y nos regreso a México en 1973 en donde hemos vivido desde entonces. Hoy tenemos 6 hijos y cuatro nietos.

Hemos aprendido que la verdadera felicidad esta en vivir conforme a nuestro Creador y su plan divino. Hemos aprendido a amar la belleza de la santidad del  matrimonio.  Cuando la gente moderna empieza a querer cambiar los planes y estatutos de Dios, allí es cuando empezamos a tener grandes problemas de salud y de paz en el corazón.

El precio que hay que pagar por ser humano es el error, pero si perseveramos en el error entonces se vuelve necedad.  Yo creo que todos cometemos errores  pero es de sabios no perseverar en ellos.  Dios es un Dios de Amor y no vino al mundo a condenarlo, sino a salvarlo ¿De qué? De sus errores, de su pecado.  Si, todos estamos fuera de Dios, asi que El tomo medidas para abrirnos la puerta a Si mismo al mandar a Cristo Jesús.

Romanos 6:33 nos dice que el precio que tenemos que pagar por nuestros pecados es la muerte…Pero el regalo de Dios es la vida eterna por medio de Jesucristo.

Apocalipsis 3:19-20 dice: Yo reprendo y castigo a todos los que amo; sé, pues, celoso, y arrepiéntete. 
He aquí, yo estoy a la puerta y llamo; si alguno oye mi voz y abre la puerta, entraré a él, y cenaré con él, y él conmigo. 

Romanos  3:21 nos dice que podemos ser perdonados por medio de la fe y el arrepentimiento.

En Romanos 3:23 nos dice que todos hemos pecado, y estamos alejados de la amistad de Dios, 
Y en Romanos 3:24 nos dice que somos justificados gratuitamente por su gracia, mediante lo que hizo Jesucristo en la cruz.

Y en Romanos 10:9-13 nos dice como se puede ser salvos y perdonado y dice: que si confesares con tu boca que Jesús es el Señor, y creyeres en tu corazón que Dios le levantó de los muertos, serás salvo. 
10:10 Porque con el corazón se cree para justicia, pero con la boca se confiesa para salvación. 
10:11 Pues la Escritura dice: Todo aquel que en él creyere, no será avergonzado.

Cuando creemos en El verdaderamente, nuestro enfoque cambia de las cosas que nos tenían separados de Dios a las cosas que nos llevan a crecer mas cerca a El.  Dios es bueno, y El quiere restaurarnos a Su imagen  y desviarnos de las cosas que distorsionan Su imagen en nosotros.  Quiere que caminemos cerca de  El y que lo obedezcamos

En Romanos 10:12-13 nos dice: que no hay diferencia entre judío y griego, pues el mismo que es Señor de todos, es rico para con todos los a El claman, porque todo aquel que invocare el nombre del Señor, será salvo. CONCLUSION

Dios es bueno y quiere restaurar a toda la humanidad a como El nos creó: a Su imagen, libres pero obedientes a Sus mandamientos y a Su Plan, en comunión con El y en santidad.

El mundo necesita volverse a Dios y aceptar Su evangelio que son las buenas nuevas de salvación.  Necesita alejarse de lo malo, lo corrupto, la violencia, la traición, y del uso ilegal del sexo.

La televisión, Hollywood y la música negativa y destructora  están corrompiendo las buenas costumbres, el amor, el respeto…la familia.

ARREPIENTETE, CAMBIA LA DIRECCION HACIA DONDE VAS, CREE EN EL SEÑOR JESUCRISTO Y SERAS SALVO TU Y TU CASA. 

¿Cómo puedes hacer esto.? Arrepiéntete o sea pídele perdón a Dios por todo lo malo que hayas hecho.  Invita a Jesucristo a morar en tu corazón, en tu vida, y a vivir conforme a Sus consejos.  Pídele a Dios que con Su Espíritu Santo te dé las fuerzas para vivir una vida sana y limpia. 

Podrías decir una oración como ésta:  “Padre Santo, te pido perdón de todos mis pecados y me arrepiento de ellos.  Me siento triste al pensar en lo que he hecho o dicho y que no es de tu agrado.   Señor Jesús, te invito a que entres en mi corazón y tomes la dirección de mi vida.  Quiero conocerte y tener amistad y comunión contigo.  Gracias por escucharme, perdóname y restaurarme.  Te pido todo esto en el  nombre de Jesucristo, Tu Hijo amado y ahora  mi Señor y Salvador.  Amen”.

Si hiciste esta oración de todo corazón, un milagro pasó en tu vida.  De hoy en adelante te vas a sentir diferente y vas a experimentar paz en tu alma.

Aunque Dios no nos promete un lecho de rosas, sí nos promete ayudarnos a mantener la paz y la seguridad de la  salvación.  Las  siguientes  sugerencias te pueden ayudar a mantenerte firme:

1.    Mantén una relación cercana con Dios por medio de la lectura bíblica.  Hay varias guías bíblicas que te pueden auxiliar. 

2.    Pasa tiempo en oración. Orar es hablar con Dios.  Háblale como si estuvieras platicando con tu mejor amigo. 
3.    Adórale con música, cantos y salmos.

4.    Busca una iglesia local en donde te puedas congregar con regularidad. 

5.    Sirve a Dios y a tu prójimo. Recuerda que el que no vive para servir, no sirve para vivir.  Haz el bien a todos.

6.    Trata de ser un pacificador, porque ellos serán llamados hijos de Dios.

7.    Aprende de Jesucristo como tu máximo ejemplo. El nos dice: “Venid a mí todos los que estáis trabajados y cargados, y yo os haré descansar.  Llevad mi yugo sobre vosotros, y aprended de mí, que soy MANSO y HUMILDE de corazón y hallaréis descanso para vuestras almas”.  (Mateo 11:28-29)

8.    Busca la santidad y consérvala, porque sin ella, nadie verá al Señor.  Aléjate de las malas compañías e influencias.

9.    Busca la amistad de gente buena y que crea en el Señor Jesucristo.  Comparte tu fe con otros con amor y respeto.
